Amecon 2006 took place on Friday 11th - Sunday 13th August 2006 and what a excellent weekend to tribute Japanese culture, Anime and Manga. For those who could not make it down to Leicester don't worry we have included a gallery of our Amecon 2006 Pictures for you to enjoy.
The Anime convention was our first we have attended and what a brilliant time we had although we enjoyed the drinking and evening social events a little too much. Amecon featured many activities to enjoy that ranged from the Cosplay Ball, AMV shows, Karaoke, J-pop Games, a strip show on the final day (explanation later) and drinking...did I mention this?
If you are unfamiliar with Amecon its a UK Anime convention held in even numbered years so the next one wont be until 2008. Normally the convention announces whether it will run or not a year before the event so at this moment nothing is confirmed. The 2006 event was the second time the convention had taken place with the first been held in 2004 in Warwick. One of the new events this year was the anticipated Cosplay Ball during which a certain Scowny strip down to a thong and danced at the event, the video taken of the event can be seen on YouTube under search query "Cosplay Strip".
One negative note we would make but not to do with the convention it self was the accommodation. Most of us stayed in the University Halls over the three days for a moderate fee but some of us found the accommodation to be below average. This ranged from problems with untidy toilet facilities to no heating in the cold mornings, but aside from that many found the University Halls satisfactory. Next time we are planning to find and stay in private accommodation e.g. Bed and Breakfast or Hotel that is near the convention.
