Amecon is one of the largest UK Anime conventions that quite often runs for 3 days every even calendar year. This convention is dedicated to fans of Japanese Culture, Anime and Manga.
It features many events, special guests, Anime screenings, Cosplay as one of the most popular events and the dealers room is always a busy event with selling of Anime and Japanese related goods. The last event in 2008 attracted 1500 people over the three day weekend during 8th - 10th August.
The first Amecon was held in 2004 and the last convention took place in 2007 at Leicester University, normally the convention runs in even years to allow Ayacon to run in its odd number of years. Ayacon was supposed to be hosted in 2007 but due to unforeseen circumstances the event was not been scheduled but Amecon 2007 ran instead of its absence.
If you missed the event from last year or from Amecon 2006 have a look and see the pictures we snapped up over the last two conventions, Amecon 2007 Pictures and Amecon 2006 Images also we included a Amecon 2007 Blog - RSS Feed
Amecon 2007 finished with the annoucement that it will return in August 2008. Just before registration began in late 2007, on the Amecon website the date of the convention was confirmed as Friday 8th - Sunday 10th August 2008.
Amecon 2008 drew an attendance of 1500 members an increase from the expected 1200 making it biggest attendance so far, this is now the fourth and latest Amecon convention held in the UK. During the end of the 2008 Convention, at the closing ceremony revealed a special guest, one of the Aycon committee members who announced the return of Aycon for 2009. This means that Amecon will take a break after running for 3 consecutive years and possibly return in 2010.
At the moment Ayacon's committee has not yet confirmed the date of the convention for 2009, more information on Ayacon can be found here. Hopefully Ayacon 2009 is definitely going to be returning so there is definitely a major Anime and Manga Convention for next year.
